Ai will not take your job

I’ve been hit with inspiration to write during the weekends. I’m not sure how long it will last but I’m going to ride the wave and enjoy it regardless. Lately, there have been so many takes on how AI is going to take everyone’s jobs and destroy the market. As someone who has not too long ago worked on an AI/ LLM project for a large client. I’m going to say that we aren’t there yet. AI still hallucinates, needs very detailed prompting, has some risks when it pertains to data security and privacy, and needs to be fact checked often. I would even go as far to say that while there may be plenty of VCs and CEOs that may be clamoring for the AI '“gold rush” to accomplish eliminating the need for people to fill roles, this will never happen. It’s not realistic. Honestly, due to how it would impact the economy as well as the regulations that AI will undoubtedly need established, they don’t want that to happen as much as they’re pushing that they do.

Instead of viewing AI as a dystopian-esque cost cutting tool or forcing it into items and experiences that absolutely no one asked for, AI could be and should be viewed as an assistant at best. What I mean by this is, instead of an image generator that is now being used to flood Pinterest or an attempt at substituting a therapist, please don’t ever use an LLM for that. It could be used to assist with disabilities, complete menial tasks that we’re too busy to notice needs to be done, enhance study guides, analyze concepts and find the gaps that are missing, track changes in your vitals during an operation, and much more.

Instead of wondering if it’ll lessen my career opportunities, I often find myself asking how can AI be used in a way that is less harmful on the environment and on society in a large scale. Since the goal of AI should never be to replace people in order to increase profit but to offset the cognitive overload we deal with daily.

AI won’t take your job, it will just change how you do it. With it being in its infancy, how you will use it to assist you is truly up to you.
